The South West regional anaesthesia course is a well established course with experienced faculty.
This course is aimed at anaesthetists of all grades who wish to expand their knowledge of regional anaesthesia.
The teaching will be delivered using a mixture of formal lectures covering key core topics and plenty of hands on scanning practice (max ratio 4 delegates/ ultrasound machine), together with live demonstrations of relevant sonoanatomy as well as pre-recorded videos of selected blocks. There will be plenty of opportunities to practice needling on ultrasound phantoms (gel and porcine) with one to one guidance from the faculty.
Over the 2 days we will attempt to cover all the major upper and lower limb peripheral nerve blocks, as well as abdominal and basic neuroaxial blocks. We will focus exclusively on ultrasound guided techniques as this is now mainstream practice. We will also cover relevant anatomy and pharmacolgy ,equipment, conduct of anaesthesia, and complications.
An assessment of basic scanning competency (image optimisation and in/out of plane needle visualisation) is incorporated into the course.
